Nestled in the heart of the local community at Shops, 4 Barker St, Griffith ACT 2603, Sonamu stands as a welcoming destination for those who appreciate thoughtful preparation and a relaxed dining atmosphere. The restaurant has established itself as a neighborhood staple, drawing in residents and visitors alike who are looking for a consistent and enjoyable meal. With a focus on creating a space that feels both personal and professional, Sonamu bridges the gap between traditional hospitality and modern dining expectations. Whether you are planning a quiet evening out or a casual gathering with friends, the environment is designed to accommodate a variety of social settings while maintaining a sense of warmth that is often hard to find in larger, more commercial establishments.
The philosophy behind Sonamu centers on the belief that a great dining experience is built upon the foundation of quality ingredients and a genuine commitment to the craft of cooking. By prioritizing the integrity of the food, the kitchen team ensures that every plate served reflects a dedication to balance and flavor. This approach has allowed the restaurant to cultivate a loyal following, as patrons often return not just for the food, but for the reliable consistency that defines the establishment. The location in Griffith provides a convenient hub for locals, making it an accessible choice for anyone seeking a high-quality meal without the pretense of fine dining.
Why Sonamu Remains a Local Favorite
Commitment to Quality: Every dish is prepared with a focus on fresh, high-quality components, ensuring that the natural flavors of the ingredients are allowed to shine through in every bite.
Welcoming Atmosphere: The interior design and service style are carefully curated to provide a comfortable, inviting space where guests feel at ease from the moment they walk through the door.
Community Integration: Located conveniently at 4 Barker St, the restaurant serves as a central meeting point for the Griffith community, fostering a sense of connection and shared enjoyment.
Consistent Standards: A rigorous attention to detail in the kitchen ensures that the dining experience remains reliable and satisfying, regardless of how busy the service might be.
Beyond the menu, the true strength of Sonamu lies in its ability to foster a sense of belonging. The staff understands that dining is as much about the social interaction as it is about the food, and they strive to provide service that is attentive yet unobtrusive. This balance is essential in creating the kind of environment where guests feel comfortable lingering over their meals, engaging in conversation, and truly unwinding. In an era where dining out can often feel rushed or impersonal, Sonamu offers a refreshing alternative that prioritizes the human element of the hospitality industry.
As the restaurant continues to evolve, it remains deeply rooted in its original mission: to serve the Griffith community with integrity and care. The team behind Sonamu is constantly looking for ways to refine their offerings while staying true to the core values that have made them a success. By listening to feedback and maintaining a close connection with their patrons, they ensure that the restaurant remains relevant and appealing to a diverse range of tastes. It is this adaptability, combined with a steadfast commitment to excellence, that positions Sonamu as a significant contributor to the local culinary landscape.

We had dinner at this restaurant and found the traditional Korean decor interesting. Service was prompt and food served soon after ordering. The tofu stew was delicious and flavourful. Cold noodles and kimchi pancake were good too. They have good vegetarian choices too including bulgogi.

very nice decor and good food! it’s not too “australianized” like other korean restaurants in canberra (apart from having broccoli and capsicum in some dishes, which I found a bit strange…but oh well). I just wish there was more rice cakes in the rice cake dish! everything tasted great, but the japchae and fried chicken were especially amazing!

Not too bad but not great as we would prefer for the Korean food. Got to this restaurant by a chance and the over claimed rating. Although the food and restaurant are run by Koreans, the taste is not up to other delicious Korean restaurant we eat by far. The price is similar to those Korean restaurants with side dishes. Will not come back there again. A few ones near shopping area in Canberra are much better for the taste and value for money.

Delicious food offering large portions and realistic prices. Friendly staff who will help you choose a dish to your liking from their menu. Their ginger tea is refreshing and a pleasant change from our usual glass of wine. We really did enjoy our lunch outing and loved the Korean decor.

Been here a few times now and it is always amazing! I am still dreaming about the Kimchi Jjigae which one of the best stews I've had ever.
